Fellowship

The friendly, pleasant and relaxing atmosphere of the men’s breakfast at my church led me to think about fellowship. Everyone longs for meaningful associations which nurture solidarity, camaraderie and companionship. There are three basic needs universal to man the need to fell safe, the need to fell important and the need to belong. Fellowship meets man’s deep need of belonging. Jesus’ encounter with Zaccheus offers three clues about fellowship. First, Jesus interrupted his own schedule; many times our agenda is a hindrance to fellowship. Second, was initiative; Jesus took the initiative for fellowship, he didn’t wait for an invitation, on the contrary he invited himself, which is the third clue. Jesus invited himself to have fellowship in Zaccheus’ house; yes, he invited himself to Zaccheus’ house. The result of this encounter (fellowship) was a radical change in Zaccheus’ life and the community.
